Happy new year!!!

We’ve just started a new year with this 90’s Dance Music Blog, the second! I hope this year could be at least so good as 2011, but I’ll try to do the best to do it better and for enjoying this music!

With the 13th volume we’re reviewing the ’97, ’98 & ’99 years with hits from Italy, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium and Denmark.

From Italy are Eiffel 65, The Soundlovers, Prezioso feat. Marvin, Corona, Kim Lukas & A.C. One.

Eiffel 65, an Italian electronic/eurodance 3-piece group, formed in the late 90’s and best known for their international hit “Blue (Da Ba Dee)”. Their other hit singles include “Move Your Body” and “Too Much of Heaven” (the track included in this volume) and “Lucky In My Life” were also successful.

The name “Eiffel” was chosen randomly by a computer program and the “65” was scribbled onto their name on a demo by mistake; it was actually part of a phone number.

Eiffel 65 achieved rare success in the US. Their debut single became a top 10 hit and their album a top 5 placing and sold over 2 million units. No other Italian pop or dance group before or since has ever achieved such sales in theUS.

In June 2006, it was announced that Eiffel 65’s new name would be Bloom 06.

Now in 2010 the guys start a return as Eiffel 65 – A new chapter is born.

In the project of The Soundlovers is the producer Maurizio Molella, that together with Phil Jay has made other important dance productions like Gala.

Prezioso refers to Andrea Prezioso and Giorgio Prezioso, an Italodance duo with hit singles in countries including Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom and Germany. The brothers have released best-selling records as solo artists and as part of italo house ensembles. They are known today as part of the Prezioso feat. Marvin trio with singer Alessandro Moschini. Moschini is called “Marvin” after boxer Marvin Hagler.

Kim Lukas & A.C. One were one of the best productions in the 90’s from the Alberto Carpani, Gino Zandon‡, Roberto Turatti (producer and writer of Den Harrow in the 80’s), Silvio Melloni team.

From Germany are ATB & sASH!

In 1998, AndrÈ Tanneberger started a solo project named ATB. His first track under this name was “9pm (Till I Come)” included in the Movin’ Melodies album, which topped the United Kingdom music charts in 1999 and is widely regarded as the UK’s first trance number one. The track features a guitar riff that became hugely popular. This guitar sound, which he accidentally found while experimenting with a new producing deck, became the trademark of his early hits. ATB continues to evolve and change with every album. His current style involves more vocals and varied sounds, with frequent pianos.

From Sash! this is included “Ecuador” one of the most famous tracks from him! In this volume is included two remixes from their team for Paradisio and 2 Unlimited, that in this year 1998 DeCoster and Wilde recruited two new (again Dutch) singers, Romy van Ooijen (b. 18 November 1971) and Marjon van Iwaarden (b. 18 June 1974), in order to capitalise on previous success. “Wanna Get Up” did well in the Netherlands.

From Netherlands are Alice Dj & Vengaboys.

Alice Deejay is a project by Jurgen Rijkers (a.k.a. DJ Jurgen) and co-produced by Wessel van Diepen & Dennis van den Driesschen (a.k.a. Danski & DJ Delmundo) and Sebastiaan Molijn & Eelke Kalberg (a.k.a. Pronti & Kalmani). Act on stage was performed by Judith Pronk (who sang the vocals on the records).

Vengaboys were a dutch commercial house-act produced by Wessel van Diepen & Dennis van den Driesschen. A ‘latino dance troupe’ spearheaded by DJ Danski and DJ Delmundo – two Spanish DJs who toured Spain and Ibiza in a bus between 1992 and 1997, bringing “provocative grooves and sexy lyrics” to beaches for impromptu and illegal dance and beach parties.

During 1995-96, four dancers/singers (Roy, Denice, Kim and Robin) – who had been regular guests at the beach parties – were added and the enlarged troupe toured beaches throughout Europe.

Initially the new foursome worked as dancers to ‘spice up’ the DJ sets. The act’s first single “Up & Down” was released in March 1997 in selected countries (Germany, France, Italy, Scandinavia and Israel), becoming a huge success in Europe (e.g. making the top 5 in The Netherlands, Denmark, France and Spain), before making its way over to America. The UK really caught the ‘Venga bug’, with combined sales of the act’s first 4 singles – “Boom Boom Boom” (reached #1); “We’re Going To Ibiza” (#1); “Up & Down” (#3), that is included in this volume, and “We Like To Party)” appraoching nearly 2 Million.

With global sales of over 10 Million singles and 5 Million copies of their first album, Vengaboys have proved to be the most commercially successful Dutch group after 2 Unlimited.

After years of hiatus, they now confirmed their return in 2010 composed of Kim, Denice, returning member Robin and the newest member Donny (Ma’Donny) with their come back brand new and official single to be released in UK this May 2010 then follows worldwide very soon which is entitled “Rocket To Uranus” which according to Kim: “This is the most gayest song ever”. They also finished shooting a music video for this single shot in London and L.A.

From Belgium are 2 Unlimited & Paradisio, and finally from Denmark another great hit from Aqua… This Time “Doctor Jones”.

…and that’s all for this month! I hope you enjoy this new trip through the sounds of the 90’s Dance Music!!!

See you soon!!!
